Market Power and Market Exchange: Retailer–Supplier Relationships in Contemporary Russia
Abstract
Disputed issues of Russian retail trade are considered from the standpoint of power asymmetry in the market exchange. Numerous requirements of the chain store companies to their suppliers are analyzed in detail. Company size and trade sector are used as explanatory variables. Regressions models are tested to explain the emergence of conflicts in the supply chain by the price and bonus obligations and contract fulfillment. Survey data were collected from 500 managers of retail chains and their suppliers in 2007 in five Russia’s cities.
