The Creation of MIR: how the national payment card system originated in Russia

Abstract

The case materials allow to analyze the history and development prospects of the Mir national payment card system, to consider the decisions made at different stages of the implementation of this national-scale project and their impact on the results of the project, the achievement of its goals and indicators. The creation of the national payment card system and the Mir payment system is not just the most complex infrastructure project in the field of financial technologies, but also a strategic project that has significantly influenced the economic and social processes in Russia. Among the most significant goals of the project are ensuring the sovereignty and security of the Russian financial system, developing new opportunities for the targeted use of budgetary funds, and promoting modern digital technologies in people's daily lives.
