Information Infrastructure of the Russian Retail Chains
Abstract
Retail chains all over the world go through a period of transformation, enabled by the growing prevalence of integrated information systems. As the applications of information and communication technology (ICT) are rapidly converging, the rise of layered information infrastructures brings new opportunities and challenges in retail chains management. In this article main trends and development prospects of retail chains in Russia have been overviewed from this point of view. The author analyzes the current state of using ICT by local chains aiming to ascertain the main problems preventing transformation of their IT-applications set into information infrastructure.
