Abstract

The research provides a comprehensive review of research on outsourcing from a variety of research domains and traditions. The received perspective on explaining outsourcing of transaction cost economics is supplemented first with the resource-based view of the firm and second with the organizational perspective. The latter is a new approach which holds that organization-wide factors affect outsourcing behaviors and success. Propositions that combine all three perspectives are offered.
