Organisational Trust: Methodological Foundations in Economics, Sociology and Management
Abstract
In sociology, psychology, economics and management a lot has been done in studying trust as a social phenomenon. In this article the authors discuss the methodological foundations of trust research. The paper considers institutional method of the New Institutional Economics theory, the network analysis of the New Economic Sociology, and the concept of transaction and social costs applied to the study of the organisational trust. The theoretical discussions on trust between sociologists and economists are reviewed as well. The authors attempt to characterize the nature and the essence of organisational trust, its structural elements and relation to the social exchange inside the organisation.
