Abstract

Purpose: to identify the key topics and main trends in the strategic management of an organization in the context of digital transformation based on the semantic literature review.

Metodology: semantic analysis was carried out using the topic modeling method with two bibliometric approaches: keyword analysis (using VOSviewer and BERTopic modeling) and abstract analysis (using LDA and BERTopic modeling) of the academic papers from Scopus (the corpus includes 9 143 articles in a strategic management of an organization in the context of digital transformation for the period from early 1998 to March 2024). The Python programming language was used for modeling (libraries Pandas, Gensim, BERTopic, NLTK, etc.).

Findings: the study presents a general assessment of the dynamics of the analyzed papers, including the keywords, and highlights the most cited ones. Cluster analysis enabled to systematize the keywords into research directions. The semantic analysis with LDA modeling by abstracts identified 20 dominant topics in the papers and an inter-thematic research map was formed. The results of BERTopic modeling showed higher accuracy. Specifically, more than 80 topics identified in the array allowed to trace the time evolution of the top 10. Among the list of the topics, the most common ones relate to application issues of digital transformation in various industries.

Originality and contribution: the given study contributes to the systematization of knowledge through interdisciplinary and multidimensional analysis of academic papers. The main contribution of the study is the proposed combination of bibliometric analysis methods. Its application allows to get an overall view on the research landscape and determine the key topics and the main trends. These trends can be considered as the relevant agenda for those scholars who are interested to contribute in managing the digital transformation of an organization.
